I began my counseling career in 1988 working in the addictions field with people who were actively addicted and those family members affected by addiction. In 1993 I completed a graduate degree and became a licensed psychotherapist. I have experience working with a vast number of issues and have a current specialty in trauma work as well as working with adults from dysfunctional families.
My approach to therapy is eclectic, which combines a number of treatment methods. This enables me to work with my clients in ways that provide an exact fit to their personalities, issues, goals, and aspirations. I have advanced training and certification in EMDR and Inner Work which has proven to be very effective with trauma, negative incidents, depression, anxiety, anger, phobias, relationship issues, sub-personalities, strengthening the self and enhancing peak performance and creativity.
My values in therapy are a nonjudgmental, compassionate, and supportive attitude. I encourage collaboration between myself and my clients as we continue to create the therapeutic process.
I am a professional clinical member of NASW, EMDR International Association, International Society for Traumatic Stress, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the International Critical Stress Foundation.
For therapists working toward EMDR certification, I provide group and individual consultation as an EMDRIA approved consultant.
In addition to psychotherapy, I teach a variety of meditation classes, facilitate silent retreats, and hold various workshops in the Austin area.
